I had a long talk with my late-night twitter crew which led to all of us agreeing to write a contemplative post with 25 items/random things about us. I’ve thought about what I might say all day so here goes nothing. Well, here goes 25 things I think are interesting about me.
1. I trust myself.
I took a few years and a few mistakes, but I trust my intuition above all else.
2. I love sad-love stories.
Just try to watch Crazy/Beautiful or Flirting and not ache with sad love. The book On Love makes me cry every time I read it.
3. I am a gadget girl.
It’s a sickness but I got it from my mama. I especially love kitchen gadgets.
4. My punctuation is sometimes atrocious.
Because of social media, yes you Facebook and Twitter, I often overuse the exclamation point. “OMG!!!!! That’s AMAZING!!!!”
5. I would re-do my college years in a heartbeat.
My undergraduate years were truly magical in retrospect. There were difficult times but the good times were immense and beautiful.
6. Being a New Orleanian makes me one of the luckiest people on earth.
Most people are proud of their hometown so this isn’t anything strange. But this city, with her joie de vivre and laissez les bon temps rouler, has a certain je ne sais quoi that beguiles all who enters her loving arms.
7. The best decision I ever made was to follow my own dreams.
This is solely because of the truth of #1.
8. I have an unhealthy addiction to design magazines. Truthfully, all magazines. Well, except tabloids. I don’t read those.
I especially love Canadian and British Home magazines. Something about their style resonates with me.
9. I really can talk about paper for hours.
This is one of the reasons twitter is so cool. I’ve found my tribe.
10. Before I die, I want to travel the globe.
The urban planner in me wants to see all the great cities of the world and the romantic in me loves the idea of waking up in a new city and just seeing what happens.
11. I would rather an old house over a new one anyday.
I want a house with some history. A house that has been through some hard times. In New Orleans, if a house is 100 years old and still standing, I know it’s been through hurricanes, extreme heat, floods, winds. I can’t say the house built two years ago will be able to withstand the same.
12. I was on a plane once with Debbie Allen and I LOVE her. To this day, I regret not saying hello.
“Fame COSTS and right here is where you start paying in SWEAT.”
13. If you’re close friend or a mere acquaintance or perhaps we chatted in Starbucks, then you know I curse like a sailor.
But I’m sort of trying to stop, well curtail myself sometimes.
14. If I could have lunch tomorrow with a celebrity, it would be John Mayer or Adrian Grenier.
I love people who love what they do obessively. I know John is that way about music and Adrian is that way about sustainable industry. Passionate people are the most interesting to me.
15. I quote Oprah. A lot. Like ALL THE TIME.
16. I still think it’s weird that my friends are parents.
Are we even old enough to be parents? Oh yeah, we are. Even my brother is a grandfather which makes me a great-aunt. How did this sh*t happen? (Remember #13? See, I’m trying to stop.)
17. Running my own business has been the joy of my life.
It’s the thing that keeps me up at night and the thing that wakes me up in the morning. The hardest job I’ve ever loved.
18. If you’re ever on Jeopardy and I’m the category, the answer is “What is she wanted to play the drums?”
My secret dream is to be a drummer in a rock band. Laugh all you want. It’s true.
19. My ideal next door neighbors are Ina Garten and her husband Jeffrey on one side and Paula Deen and Michael on the other.
Because that would be a whole mess of crazy good times with really good food!
20. I have a hard time biting my tongue so I rarely do.
21. I love to bake far more than I like to eat sweets.
22. My mother bumps into celebrities all the time at the casino and NEVER knows who they are and I HATE IT.
Her last celebrity encounter? Playing nickel slots with Harry Connick, Jr. Her biggest goof? She got stuck in an elevator with Miles Davis. No clue who he was until afterwards.
23. Okay that last one wasn’t about me, per se, but I’m running on empty here.
24. I realize #23 was kind of a cheat, so here’s a good one: I’m not amenable to change in the morning.
I have the same routine every morning and I’m a better, more patient and kind person for the rest of the day if my morning routine stays the same uninterrupted.
25. My favorite part of 2011 has to be all of the incredibly cool people I’ve met on twitter. You all have enriched my life and I’m eternally grateful. Especially you Andre.
Hi Angel,
this is sooo awesome! I LOVE your list
I lived in New Orleans 1999-2001 and worked at the Ritz-Carlton during the opening season. SO love this city. I am sure we bumped into one another at one of the cafes or elsewhere. Next time I am coming over to visit my friends, I’ll be sure to see you!
I am so shocked how much we have in common. I always wanted to play drums, I curse like a fish vendor (I am from Germany and I do it best in my own language, here in Dallas, they always bite their tongues -can’t relate to that at all…), I love old houses, if I know one thing: I can always rely on myself because I trust my intuition….
This was a joy to read and thanks for sending me your link!!!
Happy new year and cheers,

I love it! I love all of our similarities and differences too! I am with you on finding my tribe on twitter of passionate people and good energy. Okay, I’m next I guess. Happy New Year to you.
The last year has been crazy hasn’t it? I think my fave is that you continue to curse like a sailor (even though you’re trying to quit). I try to but then end up cursing even more.
So glad that you’re around to keep me sane!
Oh Andre! You just made my night. Cheers to an awesome 2012!
